Bourbon? Apples? Cinnamon and Rosemary? The only thing cosier is a crackling fire.

Ingredients

Serves 4

FOR THE CRUMBLE

  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

FOR THE APPLES

  • 5 apples, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons bourbon

FOR SERVING

  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°.
  • First, prepare the crumble. Use your hands to incorporate butter into flour. Texture will remain chunky. Add sugar, spices, oats, rosemary, and orange zest. Set aside to chill in refridgerator for 30 minutes.
  • Next, prepare your apples. Place a large skillet over low heat. Toss apple slices with bourbon and add to the pan, cooking for about 10 minutes, or until the apples have softened and the bourbon has reduced.
  • Layer apples in an approximately 8x8 baking dish. Sprinkle on crumble mixture and bake for 30 minutes, or until bubbling.
  • Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream, if you like.
