Meet Raffi Meyer, owner of Meyer Micros. He might be one of our favorite local microgreen growers and here’s why.
I spent the first 10 years of my life in the beautiful mountains of Idaho, where I developed a deep love for nature and plant life. Being raised by two health conscious vegetarian parents instilled the appreciation for quality food from an early age. Microgreens are a natural fit for me to share my passion and love for plants and food.
A microgreen is a vegetable, herb, or grain grown until the seedling stage. This is precisely the time when the nutritional density has reached its apex. Microgreens often contain upwards of 40% higher nutritional value than their adult counterparts. Incorporating microgreens is the ideal way to receive many of the essential vitamins and minerals that contribute to a thriving immune system.
I love making a giant salad composed of every microgreen varietal we grow on the farm tossed with a light dressing of EVOO, mint, lemon juice, and sea salt. It’s incredibly nutritious and super delicious.
As we head into spring, we’ve been enjoying making pesto from our cilantro microgreens and lighter fare from our vegetable gardens. We’re also having fun creating drinks infused with our edible flowers.
San Diego has such a vast array of authentic cuisine, and it offers some of the highest quality ingredients available, most of which are locally sourced.
We love our local farmers markets, Jimbo’s, and Seaside Market. Some of our favorite restaurants are Serrano’s Street Tacos & Bar, GOODONYA Organic Eatery, Trattoria Positano, and Fish 101.
We eat local, organic food and grow much of our own at home. Our microgreens farm is designed with sustainability at its core (from using low-power lighting, minimal water usage, premium locally sourced organic soil, and compostable packaging made from plants), it is the cornerstone of our ethos as a sustainable company.
